She had been up early this morning, for she had to clean stalls at the barn this morning. She didn't mind the work, but she hated the reason as to why she had to do it. The police hadn't given her a moment to explain what was happening when they arrested her for the third time, but that was just her luck. Her parents had made her life hell for her, and she was honestly glad that she had nothing to do with them anymore. However, she kept all of that to herself. The only person who knew why she had been arrested was Mrs. Bridlewood, and Aydan even hated that the woman knew. She hated when people knew about her, and hated it even more when she was forced to tell them things. She wouldn't have been able to apply here if she hadn't told her of her history though, so she supposed she had no choice. However, that was one of the main reasons why she hated it. She hated when she didn't get to choose. The young woman sighed to herself as she continued her walk to her second job.
She needed something to pay the bills. The two horses she had back home still required feed and care, and she sent the checks to her friend back home every month. The friend exercised them regularly, but Aydan couldn't wait until she proved herself to Mrs. Bridlewood. Maybe then she could convince the woman to let her bring the horses here. They wouldn't take much room, and they were used to staying outside most of the time anyway. If the woman needed the stalls then Aydan's horses could stay outside. She had invested a small fortune into their blankets, so they would be warm during the winter. But that was beside the point. She had a long way to go before that happened because she hadn't been very polite to the business owner the first time they met. She had been angry at the world, and it hadn't been good. However, she was working to fix that now.
"Hey Joe."
She greeted one of the other workers as she stepped inside of the familiar restaurant. It wasn't one of the best jobs, but she had been hired and that was all that mattered. Beggars couldn't be choosers, and she wasn't going to take advantage of that. She had had to prove herself here to become a waitress here. It was all about proving yourself when you were on probation. Sighing quietly to herself, she headed into the back where the employees had small lockers to themselves. She dropped her bag into hers and shed her jacket as well. She wore the normal black pants and nice white button up shirt and tie that was required for the uniform here. Tying her apron around her waist, she grabbed her notepad to record some orders and then headed outside. As she exited the swinging doors to go and serve her first customers, she collided with something or someone solid. Grunting as she side stepped, she looked around, her eyes slightly furious, but more confused.
"Watch it. Employees only back there."
She said quickly, trying to be polite, but not being that successful. Calming down her racing heart, she stood still, waiting for some kind of response.

She puts her makeup on Like graffiti on the walls of the heartland She's got her little book of conspiracies right in her hand She is a paranoid like endangered species headed into extinction She is one of a kind She's the last of the American Girls Luke groaned as he turned over in his sleep. The blanket gathered underneath him and left the right side of his body uncovered. He covered his face with his hand and reached absently for the cover but failed to recover the blanket in his sleepy state. Suddenly there was a loud noise ringing in his ears and Luke jumped to attention. His eyes opened and he lifted his head off his pillow to look at his bedside table.
"Oh sh..."
With that exclamation he stumbled out of his bed, nearly falling over onto his face. The light coming in through his window blinded him and holding his hand in front of his face Luke walked unsteadily to the bathroom. He dropped his hand and his eyes widened just before his face hit the door frame.
It was about an hour later and Luke was making his way down the sidewalk. He was dressed warmly in a beige jacket along with his signature beanie covering his dark hair. He had completely forgotten to shave and was feeling the stubble on his jawline with his hand. He quickly shoved it back into the pockets of his jeans and sniffed, feeling cold and only now beginning to wake up. His coffee was doing its magic and after last nights club endeavours he wasn't quite bright eyed and bushy tailed.
Luke had been told to go through the back entrance of the restaurant, just down the gap between the two buildings. It was his first day on the job and Luke was actually early for it. To his horror his clock had been set twenty minutes forwards in time. Probably thanks to one of those douches he called friends. Then again they had given him a chance at making a good first impression.
He made his way down the gap and pushed the grimy looking door open with his shoulder, shoving his way through and into the building. He rembered where to go from his application for the job just a week before. He had to get his uniform and then find out where the hell to get dressed. And then he had to get some training. Luke had had jobs before but never as a waiter, although he had some smooth moves as a barmen. Luke stopped a waitress on his adventures through the corridor, asking where to go. She had eyed him up and down then pointed further down the corridor.
"Find Aydan, she'll help you with whatever you need."
Luke gave a brief thank you then ambled three doors down and just as he was about to go through he collided with another waitress all neatly dressed, notepad in hand. Her pen dropped to the floor and Luke bent down to pick it up, standing back up and holding it out to her.
"Oh jesus, Aydan?"
He had spotted her name tag, although it might've looked like he was staring elsewhere. His eyes averted upwards, reflecting the lights overhead as he looked at her. Luke was thickly built and not at all a soft target. He cracked up some Turner charm and whipped up a quick smile on his face.
"Sorry about that. I'm Luke - your entourage for the next few hours." She wear her overcoat for the coming of the nuclear winter She is riding her bike like a fugitive of critical mass She's on a hunger strike for the ones who won't make it for dinner She makes enough to survive for a holiday of working class She's a runaway of the establishment incorporated She won't cooperate She's the last of the American Girls

She had tables to wait their breakfast to, and she had things to clean up from the tables of the previous customers. And then after her shift at the restaurant, Aydan had to go to work at the barn, doing the evening chores and bring the horses in. Her work never ended, and if she wasn't proving herself to that Mrs. Bridlewood by now, she didn't know what else would. Sighing to herself, she was focused on getting to her table until she slammed into that solid figure. She sidestepped and stumbled, catching her balance so she didn't land on her rear end. That would make a great impression on her customers. Her cheeks were tinted red from her embarrassment and her slight fury, and her eyes looked angry as she turned on whoever she had collided with. Who wouldn't watch the door? The door swung open so fast and she was good at timing it with another waiter coming in or out. And then she heard the words. And saw the guy. And his eyes were either reading her name tag, or staring where they shouldn't be.
Glowering, the young woman made eye contact with him so that he might know she knew where his eyes had been. She wasn't jumping to conclusions, and actually gave him the benefit of the doubt. But she didn't have time for these intrusions. Shaking her head, she was about to step away when she heard his next words. She froze in mid-step, looking back at him in apparent horror. What? That couldn't be right. She had never trained anyone in all of her life. He had to be joking. Looking at him incredulously, she shook her head.
"No. I mean, I can't train you. I don't have time. Go talk to Joe."
She was walking away, when speak of the devil, Joe came into sight. Aydan looked at him as if she was in shock, and he gently grabbed her arm to steer her back towards Luke. She couldn't believe this. Joe was smiling as he saw Luke, and reached out to shake the young man's hand. He still had a grip on Aydan's arm so she couldn't take off.
"Joe, I've got tables waiting..."
She warned, not wanting this to come out of her pay. But she was once again shot down as Joe spoke up.
"Didi's covering for you for now. I see you've already met Aydan, Luke. And Aydan, he's going to be shadowing you for today. Teach him everything you know, and maybe let him take a few orders. Show him the ropes, pro."
He left with a wink and a smile, as well as an open mouth stare from his youngest worker. She couldn't believe this. Closing her mouth with a click of her teeth, she stared at Luke, trying to wrap her mind around this. This had to be a joke on her. Well, she couldn't disobey her boss. Giving Luke a look, she spoke up once more.
"Follow me. I'll show you where you can change. And next time just ask me my name, because some girls could take it wrong if you were staring at their chests."
She said matter of factly, and then hurried to the back locker room for the employees. She went to where they could get their uniforms and found the set with Luke's name on them. She guessed this was for real then. Grabbing the stack of neatly folded garments, she took hold of the black shoes and handed everything to Luke. She turned her back on him and crossed her arms so that he could change.
"Hurry up. I don't have time for this. I've got tables to wait, and you've got to learn fast."
She finished, trying to be a little nicer. It wasn't Luke's fault she supposed. It was Joe's. Joe knew she didn't do well with working with others. That's why she liked this job. It meant she could take orders and put them in, but that was the extent she went to. Her mind was questioning her though. She had seen him around before, and she just couldn't put her finger on it. Furrowing her brow, she just shook her head and then waited for him to be done so she could start her day.

Can you take this broken boy? And put the pieces back as one? Though he has all of his toys... He is never having fun
Because it's not enough Now we're growing up We are giving up We are moving on It was just a few days ago that Luke had been arrested. He had already applied for this job as a waiter at Cherry Creek Copper and in order to keep that job until he actually started, he had had to come to Joe and explain his situation. Joe had agreed to keep him but one mishap and he was off for good. So Luke was lucky that his friends had changed the time on his alarm clock or else he would have screwed up before he had even started. Well, he had technically already screwed up by getting arrested. Now to add the cherry to the cake, on top of his work he had to work off his debt to society at a stables. A stables for gods sake. When had he ever been near one of those? Luke had been given labour-intensive jobs as were all the other people on probation. He hadn't gone to gym in two days because he'd done the work equal to his workout in lifting and carrying heavy things at the stables.
Aydan had not accepted his entrance into her world very well and was backing away but unlucky for her Joe was already there to stand in. He brought her back and Luke offered him a smile, reaching out to take his hand and shake it. Luke was already smiling from ear to ear at her gaping stare after Joe left. He was finding this all very amusing and he had to admit somewhat guilty over disturbing her routine.
"That some girls include you?"
His reply was a bit cheeky but after that he kept quiet right up until the point she handed him all of his clothes then turned around. He laughed, taking the clothes willingly and then eyeing her up and down whilst she wasn't looking.
"The first five minutes and you're already getting me naked. That has got to be a record."
Luke figured he had better close his yap or she'd close it for him. He was being quite forward with a woman who he had only just met. He had no idea wheher or not she would appreciate his humour. Judging by that sour expression on her face he was guessing probably not. Luke removed his beanie and his hair was standing up at all ends. Next went his shirt and jacket and he groaned as the cold hit his skin. After that Luke changed into his uniform pretty quickly, pulling it on but the thin material did nothing compared to his jacket which he begrudgingly put away in his locker. He tried to fix his hair a bit in the mirror, eyeing the thin moustache he was growing on his upper lip. It made him look a lot older and more sophisticated. Without it Luke just looked like a child.
"Ready."
He announced. Luke was beginning to wake from his half-sleepy state and his eyes were brighter now than they had been before.
"Lead the way. You're the boss." Because its not enough We were growing up We are giving up And I won't hear what you say so...

Aydan couldn't believe this. Her luck just kept getting better and better, seriously. Shaking her head, she glared after Joe, knowing that her boss was having a good laugh about this. Biting the inside of her lower lip in her aggravation and frustration, she sighed softly. There went one table of tips that she could have received. He knew her story, and she was grateful that he let her work here. It was why she couldn't refuse to train Luke. She had no choice or she would have no job. And a girl that had been arrested three times was not going to get a job anywhere else that paid this well. Beggars couldn't be choosers, but how she wished she could be. Things would be so much easier that way. She hated having no choice. It made her felt trapped, and she felt like she couldn't breathe most of the times. It was a bad habit of hers. Taking another deep breath to relax herself, she exhaled and then had stalked off to the changing locker rooms.
Hearing his words behind her, she was ready to smack that grin right off of his face. Crossing her arms and tightening them around herself, she spoke up, but it was obvious she wasn't happy about communicating with him. She wasn't happy with this young man at all. She had better things to be doing then this. She had money to be making. And because she was training him, she had to split whatever tips she made with him, especially if he started waiting today. Finally, she spit out her answer.
"Don't make it a habit. You're lucky Joe was there or I would have done more than just warned you."
She finished. The girl was not just all talk. She would have given him a shove or something, or a run for his money with her words. She worked hard for what she had, and she worked harder to support her horses. She enjoyed working at the stables, for it gave her some sense of normalcy. She had to go there after this, and that was why she wanted to get out of here as fast as possible. She couldn't be late to the barn again or she would never prove herself to Mrs. Bridlewood. Then she could never get her horses here. Sighing, she heard his next words and she tensed visibly, not enjoying that comment in the least. But she wouldn't let him see her falter. She was quick to respond, knowing what she wanted to say and the message she wanted to get across.
"Don't flatter yourself. Hurry up, I've got stalls to clean and horses to feed after this, so I need to get out on time."
She explained, and then turned around when he said ready. Well, she had to admit he wasn't ugly. But that was as far as she would go at the moment. He was too irritating to her right now for her to notice anything good. Even now her bright brown eyes traveled up to his hair, and her face grimaced. He needed to take care of that. Going to her locker, she grabbed out a comb and wet it from the sink in the bathroom they had in the back. Bringing it out to him, she handed it over.
"Can't go out there looking like you just woke up."
She stated matter of factly, and then turned as he spoke up once more. She would lead the way, because she was his boss right now. Shaking her head and rolling her eyes, she put a smile on her face as she entered the floor of the restaurant. Seeing her assigned table fill up, she went over immediately after the patrons had settled in. She didn't take her notepad out for her now because she was rather good at remembered things.
"Welcome to Cherry Creek Copper. My name's Aydan and I'll be your server for today. This is Luke. He's in training, so he'll be helping me out today. But is there anything I can start you off with for now? How about drinks?"
She had rattled it off like it was burned into her memory, and it basically was. She had just added the part about Luke so they wouldn't be confused about the extra waiter. She took their drink orders without writing them down, for it was mostly just coffee and orange juice, as well as water. That was how it normally was in the morning. She motioned for Luke to follow her.
"Breakfast is easiest. Just give them their drinks and leave them for about two to five minutes. It usually helps when they close their menus."
She said easily, stacking the drinks onto her tray. There were five in total, and she balanced it easily, moving quickly away from the drink station and handing out the beverages. They weren't ready to order yet, so Aydan gave them time, wondering if Luke had any questions.

Show me how to lie You're getting better all the time And turning all against the one Is an art that's hard to teach Another clever word Sets off an unsuspecting herd And as you step back into line A mob jumps to their feet
Despite having announced that he was ready Aydan seemed to think otherwise. She wet a comb and handed it to him, and Luke didn't have an arguement to give her. He knew what his hair looked like and had often been moaned at for not brushing it. He eyed the comb then used it to slick his hair back, which was longer than it usually was. Being longer it didn't stick up when Luke combed it back like it used to. This time it lay rather neatly on his scalp and now Luke looked even older and more sophisticated, not just an old guy with childish hair.
"Look awake yet?"
That comment hardly mattered because Aydan was out the door. Luke had to follow en suite and found himself thrown into the middle of his job surrounded with tables elegantly decorated and full of customers. He wasn't intimidated by the crowds because he entertained crowds whenever he was out at clubs or on the night scene. The intimidation came from a world he didn't know. Luke didn't come from an all rich scene and that was exactly what this was. However he liked to take up a challenge and this was it. He did his best to look professional and follow Aydan to a table without looking like a lost puppy following someone home.
Luke shot the table one of his smiles, looking his friendliest but trying not to look too casual. Be friendly with these people and you'd be presumed to be a joke. He had to take this somewhat seriously but with a slight hangover (nothing he wasn't used to by then) he was finding it a bit hard to concentrate. Aydan moved quickly and Luke had to keep up, finding this part not at all difficult. Did he really need training? Well that was a way to jinx it if there ever was because once you thought it was easy, it got harder.
"Nothing worse than a waiter that lags."
He had replied to her, but on that thought she was off again with the drinks and he was still leaning on the counter. He pushed off and followed her again, only to be sent straight back to where they had been standing whilst their customers made their decisions.
"Are you going to teach me some mad skills with the tray?"
Luke joked, taking a tray in hand and manouvering it around until he caught a stare from one of the customers. He put it back down on the counter.
"Anyone ever lighten up around here?"
Luke tapped his fingers on the counter then motioned to Aydan.
"Menus closed and on the table. That's our signal."
He had motioned towards the table, already waiting on her to hurry on off. He bowed down, arm extended in the tables direction.
"After you."
He knew he had no chance with her if it came down to a race to the table. Of course Luke had nothing against her, he was just having a hard time getting her to at least smile at his humour. He had a feeling she wasn't going to like him right off the bat but he was a persistent bugger and dammit, he was going to get her to smile. At least. Now dance, dance Man, he never had a chance And no one even knew It was really only you And now you steal away Take him out today Nice work you did You're gonna go far, kidwords: 547

Aydan didn't have time for this. She could be moving a lot faster if she didn't have Luke to train now, and she was going to get Joe back for this. She knew that he did it on purpose, and she was not appreciating it. He had told her on numerous occasions that she was going to end up training someone, and she had just laughed out loud. Well now that came back to bite her in the butt, and she was paying for it. She should have learned that Joe kept his word earlier than now. Shaking her head slightly at herself, she waited as Luke combed his hair and was sizing him up. Well, he looked a little cleaner now, but he might have to shave that stubble. Aydan didn't mind it...she actually thought it made him look more attractive, although she would never admit it. But Joe liked his waiters clean-shaven and well groomed. That was Aydan had taken the time to straighten her normally wavy hair, and pinned it back into a ponytail. There was a small poof on the top of her head as many girls styled their hair, but it wasn't exaggerated. She was clean, that was the point.
However, she couldn't believe that she just thought this young man in front of her was good looking. She needed to control her thoughts better than that. Biting her tongue as he asked if he looked awake yet, she just rolled her eyes. He better look bright eyed and bushy tailed or she was going to kill him. A tired waiter meant a cranky waiter, which meant no tips. And dark circles were not a fun sight to see, so that was why she had covered hers with make up. She wore light make up as well because Joe didn't like them to be overdone. It was fancy restaurant, and he wanted his staff up to par. She always managed to look wide awake and well groomed no matter what time it was. That wasn't the point though. The point was she was trying to train Luke. She had to get his appearance out of her mind. If she loosened up she might even think he was funny, which was not what she needed right now. Serious. She had to be serious.
"Will you come on?"
She said as he lagged behind for a moment. She didn't want to be dragged down by Luke. Aydan was known for flying through the restaurant, but appeared graceful while doing it. The drink trays slowed her down a little, but other than that she was on task and quick at her job. It was why Joe liked her so much. The customers always had good things to say about her, and some even requested that she be their waitress the next time they came. Aydan always felt good when he told her things like that. Suddenly she heard Luke's words in her mind. He was like a fly that never went away.
"Right. Don't lag...you get complaints that way."
She said honestly, and then delivered the drinks. As she stood and tried to see if any of her other tables were full, she looked to see that there was a booth with two in it. Hurrying over to it, she took their drink orders and went through the same routine. As she was waiting with look, she saw him pick up a tray. Raising one eyebrow, she seemed to be about to crack a smile, but then it was gone. He couldn't do that, Joe would not be happy.
"If you break something, you won't be happy about how much it costs."
She finished, and then heard his next comment after he got a look from someone in the crowd. Well, what did he expect? These were a bunch of rich snobs that felt the need to come out for breakfast just because they had the money to spend. She gave him a look and a small shrug. Aydan wasn't rich by any means. She struggled from pay check to pay check because her rich parents had kicked her out. She had never lived the life of luxury because he parents had wanted her gone as soon as she was old enough to talk. Aydan just shook her head.
"No, it sucks really. Everyone's a snobby, stuck-up jerk here."
There were her real feelings. She didn't like this job because of the people here. She had said her statement quietly, so she had leaned a little closer to him so that he could hear it. Pulling away, she heard his comment and nodded, giving him a small smile. At least he was surveying the area already. It meant he had a quick eye, which Joe would appreciate. The other table seemed ready as well. She stood from her position and went forward as he told her to lead the way. Giving him a look, she went to the table and didn't even bother to pull out her book. She handed it over to Luke, giving him the pen as well. What better way to learn then to throw him into it? Besides, she could remember the orders.
"Ready to order?"
She asked with a fake smile, although it appeared very real to her customers. They already liked her friendly face, and that handsome waiter in training beside her. To them, they made a good couple. Aydan could just see the people looking back and forth between her and Luke. Oh boy. As they ordered, she remembered exactly what they needed, even when they asked to hold something or add extra.
"Alright, we'll put that right in for you. Anything I can get while you for now?"
When they said no, she was about to walk away, but the older woman of the table caught her arm. Aydan gave her a small smile and looked at her in question, thinking she had changed her mind. The old woman just smiled, and Aydan waited to be released, but didn't push. The old women finally spoke up, and Aydan couldn't believe her ears.
"Honey, you got yourself a looker there. You two make a wonderful couple."
Aydan didn't want to disappoint the woman, so she just smiled and said thank you. The family gathered gave her a look of apology, so it was obvious that the woman was a little senial. Aydan walked away with a slightly horrified look on her face, daring Luke to say something about that. She went with him to the kitchen to put the order in, and then went to take the orders from the other table. Once finished, she was able to relax a little until the orders were up. She settled back to watch the area, wondering what Luke would say now.

All the right friends in all the right places So yeah, we're going down They've got All the right moves in all the right faces So yeah, we're going down
Luke eyed Aydan but didn't catch her when she was about to smile. The one moment and he had missed it, floundering a bit with the tray before setting it back down again.
"My wallet is already wilting just looking at some of this stuff."
For the first time Luke cringed a bit and began to think better of messing about amongst even the fake flowers in the decoration, which he guessed would cost more than anything he had been wearing when he first came into the restaurant. Hell he was struggling with his rent because of his night life but it never occured to Luke to lighten up on it. He was just getting into his twenties and for him it was still all fun and games. That was even after his car crash. That had been devastating at the time but for Luke life went on. It hadn't been a life changing experience. It had just reinforced the "don't drink and drive" message splashed across those big advertising boards.
Luke seemed to stand up a little more when Aydan spoke.
"Excuse me? Did I hear you right? You sunk as low as that?"
Luke grinned from ear to ear.
"I'm starting to like you."
He teased, his eyes roving over her face as she leaned in a bit closer to talk to him. He hadn't been stirred by her closeness because if you knew the club scene, there was no privacy and anytime someone got in your space otherwise it wasn't like a total invasion. He was just used to it. Lucky his hair didn't smell like smoke. He had washed it that morning whilst running about to get to his new job in time. Luke only smoked when he was out and never at his home. Smoking was more like a social thing for him than anything else. You wouldn't spot any cigarette buds in his apartment. Oh, no.
After he had brought the table to Aydan's attention she walked off and he stood behind her, as he had become accustomed to in their few short trips. He had his arms folded behind his back and was surprised when she held the notepad his way. He eyed it for a moment but took it up in his hands as well as the pen. Luke was an intelligient guy but his memory was average and he'd have been screwed without the notepad. He scribbled down the orders, trying to keep it neat what with having anything to lean on. The cardboard hardly did anything to keep the notepad level. Luke was again oblivious to what was happening at the table whilst he was writing. The looks exchanged between the people flew right over his head and when finally Luke looked up, he was quite taken aback by the one last look from one of the women. She smiled at him knowingly but to Luke it meant nothing - he hadn't a clue what this woman was thinking and began to step back on his heel to retreat back to the kitchen to put in the orders.
They were stopped by the old woman who took a hold of Aydan's sleeve. Luke had to strain a bit to hear what the woman was saying but when he heard it he had to strategically place his hand over his mouth. He covered his lips with his fisted hand, feigning a cough. If he hadn't Luke would have laughed out loud and that hardly looked professional. When he turned, letting Aydan go ahead of him once again his smile was rather smug. She however seemed displeased with the comment much to his amusement and they went about taking orders. Luke all the while was smiling like an idiot but kept himself fairly professional each time they went up to a table. Finally there was nowhere for her to escape and they waited for their tables. Luke leaned on the counter once again and watched her whilst grinning. He stayed quiet for a moment or two then couldn't take it anymore. He laughed out loud but had to hide himself from the customers view.
"That look...on your...face!"
Luke tried to speak inbetween his bouts of laughter and seemed to calm himself down a little bit.
"You could have looked a little happier. Not like she said you made a wonderful couple with the hunchback of notre dame."
His eyes shone and the amusement in them was enhanced by the reflection of the lights overhead. His eyes always caught the light rather well and it seemed to give him more definition.
"You've gotten me naked and now we're a couple. You really don't waste any time, do you?"
Luke was just pushing her buttons right then, his smile becoming lopsided and charming in order to avoid her unleashing any of her wrath on him. What was it that they said? Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned, right? Well he just hoped that Aydan found something she liked about him. Luke was being as open as he could ever be with a stranger and seemed to warm to Aydan rather quickly.
